Erste Wahllokale in Vorarlberg bereits geschlossen - In Wien lag um 10 Uhr die Beteiligung minimal unter den Werten von 2006

Wien/Bregenz - Seit 7.00 Uhr haben die meisten der rund 13.000 Wahllokale für die heutige Nationalratswahl geöffnet; in manchen Wahlkarten-Wahllokalen meist auf Bahnhöfen und Flughäfen konnte schon früher die Stimme abgegeben werden. Um 17.00 Uhr ist Wahlschluss. Dann werden die ersten Hochrechnungen und einzelne Ergebnisse veröffentlicht. Das vorläufige Endergebnis liegt üblicherweise gegen 19.30 Uhr vor. Sollte es knapp ausfallen, könnten heuer die Wähler den Ausschlag geben, die ihre Stimme im Wege der erstmals möglichen Briefwahl abgeben. Diese Wahlkarten-Stimmen werden, so weit sie vorliegen, am Dienstag nach der Wahl in einer Zwischenauswertung und endgültig am 6. Oktober ausgezählt. Möglicherweise steht der Ausgang erst dann fest.

Lawmakers in Washington believe they can force through the biggest bail-out of Wall Street since the 1930s within hours, and in doing so halt the domino collapse of American banks.

Speaking from Capitol Hill just after midnight in Washington, Republicans and Democrats said they believed that they would be able to publish an agreement on the internet today that will be voted on tomorrow.

The plan calls for the Treasury Department to buy deeply distressed mortgage-backed securities and other bad debts held by banks and other investors. The money should help troubled lenders make new loans and keep credit lines open. The government would later try to sell the discounted loan packages at the best possible price. Such a measure is designed to stop the collapse of American banks and help Wall Street to start functioning normally.

Le secrétaire américain au Trésor, Henry Paulson, a fait part, dimanche 28 septembre, “de progrès importants” vers la signature du plan de de renflouement des banques de quelque 700 milliards de dollars proposé par l’administration Bush mais qui doit être approuvé par le Congrès.

“Nous avons travaillé très dur sur la question”, a indiqué Henry Paulson lors d’une conférence de presse matinale. “Nous avons effectué des progrès importants vers un accord qui marchera et sera efficace pour les marchés et pour tous les Américains.”
